Follow Friday!

Welcome to Follow Friday at Mural Maker & More. My name’s Colleen and I’m a mural maker. The ‘more’ refers to decorating, crafts & feng shui.

I’m also a mom – a stepmom, to be exact. My boys are now grown(ish), but when they were at home, painting was my salvation, my meditation, my relaxation. When my voice would reach the higher decibels, Hubs would ask my if I didn’t have something to paint. I’d retreat to my tiny little painting desk in the corner of our bedroom and immediately calm down.

I worked in a craft store as the floral/display designer. It seemed natural to start teaching classes in painting, faux finishes, floral design, and interior decorating. Between work, teaching & family, I burnt myself out. I gave up the classes. But I always missed my students.

I’ve always wanted to create a line of PIY (paint it yourself) kits. After teaching hundreds of women with no painting experience, I believed it’d work. But I had no idea how I’d have them tested and where I’d sell them.

Then I started blogging, and Facebook, and Twitter. Now I’m on a mission.

I’ll continue to blog about my murals and share pics of my paintings, but I’ll also write about all sorts of ways to decorate with paint.

I want to teach all those people who say they can’t draw a stick figure how they can decorate with paint. Especially mommies. If it can help a stepmom with 3 teenage sons calm down and relax, it can help anyone.
