My darling grandson recently turned 3.
Three!!!
Where has the time has gone?
This year, Santino’s dad (my youngest son) planned hosted the birthday party.
I had my doubts reservations about this. (That’s putting it mildly.) But I let them go.
I did!
Okay, I tried to let them go.
Ha! Who am I fooling?
Let’s just say I tried – really hard – to bite my tongue.
Pardon my lisp.
I ran out that morning to get a birthday cake. (Makes my tongue throb just thinking about it.)
I found these cool, edible Spiderman stick-ons.
If the cake had been pre-ordered, I wouldn’t have found these cute things which Santino loved.
Note to Self – you don’t have to control everything.
I also picked up candy that morning for the pinata #3 son bought.
Are you getting the drift about the party ‘planning’?
I’m trying to be nice.
I was not very nice that morning when I realized how much needed to be done.
#3 Son wondered why I was upset. So what if the party was at 1 pm and at 10 am there were no tables set up, no tablecloths, no cake, no food prepared, no plates, no candy for the pinata, no presents wrapped, no balloons, etc., etc., etc.
Why would I be upset?
And, {GAG} he was right.
It turned out to be a great day for Santino.
And that’s all that matters.
Note #2 to Self: 3 year olds don’t care about tablecloths.
Or even food.
If there are stacks of presents.
Dogs don’t care either.
Hey! Whose stupid bright idea was it to buy a huge bag of plastic balls?
And open the bag.
With a bunch of people in a little backyard.
Note #3: . . . ah, forget it.
A big, big Thank You to my nieces who included batteries with their presents.
Note to anyone buying presents for 3 year olds: make sure you include batteries.
Because the silliest little toy winds up being the biggest hit of the party.
And it needed batteries.
That my very smart nieces included.
All in all, everyone had a great time.
Even the gramma with the sore tongue.
Look! See the red tablecloth I bought that morning, after I bought the cake, after I got the candy, after I cleaned the bathrooms, and the kitchen, after I put the tablecloths on the tables that BBH set up.
Yay!!!
Isn’t it amazing how the simplest things make us happy?
Like a dollar store plastic tablecloth.
Wait! Wait just a dang minute . . .
OMG! there are spiderwebs on that old grill.
PHFFT! SIFF! THIT!
Crap. How long does it take a tongue to heal, anyway?

What a sweet little guy. Just makes me want another grandson.
ReplyDeleteI found your story very, very inspirational, probably because I identified with it. I am glad that you reminded me. So much to learn and so much to love. Isn't it wonderful that we "get it" being a grandma.
Hugs for you and your little prince
BTW I am also a muralist and a faux finisher. Maybe you can hop over to simplyfauxpainting.com
God Bless,
