Mod Podge Craft Organizing

It’s taken nearly a month but I finally got my craft workspace organized and cute-ified. You know, there are some pros and cons about having your craft space in your bedroom. I mean, it’s hard enough keeping a craft room organized but throw that in with your personal stuff and you get this . . .

Gah. I needed to come up with a “place for everything and everything in it’s place.”

That wasn’t too hard with an organizing plan. But I wanted something more. Color. Cute.

Turquoise!

Ok, so I could’ve just made some curtains for color, and I still will (eventually) but I wanted to see ‘pretty’ with all the junk stuff I see and use every day.

In all my organizing I found this pad of scrapbook paper. I have no idea when I bought it (sound familiar?) but it was full of shades of blue, turquoise and browns. Perfect.

And I still have a ton of boxes from moving, and moving again (!). So I started off with all sorts of shapes and sizes of boxes, put different tools and supplies in little boxes and started ‘podging.

Rather than stuffing supplies I rarely use into a drawer, and therefore forget that I even have, everything went into its own little box.

Stampers, pads and ink.

Sharpies, colored pencils, regular pencils, and just a few (!) paint brushes.

All those pill bottles I saved from years of pain meds come in handy for beads and other tiny knick knacks.

Everything has its own prettified box now – more markers, stencil brushes, Martha Stewart paint, foam plates, more MS paint, beads, stamps, glazes and mediums, adhesives. The list goes on and on.

It was so nice of Martha to brand her paint with turquoise. Winking smile

A dollar store caddy was perfect for my ribbon.

Even my recycling box got a makeover.

The thrift store bulletin board got a shot of turquoise.

So did a thrift store frame which became a write-on-wipe-off board.

A sweet reminder to count my blessings every day!

And two more frames hung by the door to (hopefully) keep me on top of things now.

Dollar store dry-erase pens attached with velcro. No more excuses!

Old cereal boxes and magazine files store all my catalogs and ‘zines that were previously stacked in a heap. More dollar store bins hold my spray paints for the winter. And I still have a shelf for items waited to be painted and a basket holds craft supplies for upcoming projects.

Of course, one drawer is still dedicated to paint and never, never ever never, gets pushed in. That is, unless I want to double the number of pain med bottles.

Now, the only thing I have left to do is label all the boxes and trays and bottles. It’s not that I actually need labels to find anything now. No more then I needed to spend a ton few of hours ‘podging pretty paper to old boxes. But I think labels will tie everything together.

I ‘stiffened’ some old burlap with Mod Podge and cut little rectangles.

But I can’t decide between handwriting the labels or using my labeler.

Which do you like better?

Oh, and one more dollar store score – a stick on message to remind me what all of the art and craft supplies are for.

What do you think? How do you store all of your craft supplies? Think it was worth the time to prettify all of the boxes?
