Almost every day I paint. Something. That means I start with a blank canvas or piece of watercolor paper.
Blank. White. Empty.
Coming up with focal elements to paint is not my problem. In fact, I have lists and lists, and more lists, of things I want to paint.
That’s not my issue. My problem is the background. I feel like I do the same thing over and over again.
It’s bugging me.
I had fun yesterday when I painted these circles. It took longer than I expected, but it was still fun.
I remembered a baby name canvas Jennifer @ The Magic Brush did a while back that had inspired me.
I love those harlequin diamonds!
She did this wall too. Fabulous!
But she happens to mention that she’s a math nerd and measured and remeasured and measured again on this job.
Uh-oh.
Not what I had in mind for a simple canvas.
And while everything Jennifer paints inspires me, (go check her beautiful stuff out!) I’m not up for painting harlequin diamonds on a wall.
Heck, I’m not up for painting anything on a wall!
I just want to paint some diamonds on a l’il ol’ canvas as a background.
Aren’t these cute? And they’re not uber perfect, but I like that effect.
So it’s “Google Time”.
{Remember ‘Hammer Time’? I used that song in my dance classes, lol!}
Love these panels from Benjamin Moore. But their tutorial isn’t too explicit.
Explicit? It just says “tape off your diamonds.”
Well, duh! I could’ve guessed that much.
Then I found these on Frog Tape. I’ve heard it’s the best tape out there, although I haven’t tried it yet.
It might be great tape, but I’m no closer to an easy way to paint harlequin diamonds.
I guess I’m just gonna have to figure it out on my own.
Oh, brother. Me. Figuring things out.
Ugh.
So I ditched Google and headed back to my bookmarks.
Lo and behold, another blogger with a fabulous tutorial for painting harlequin diamonds.
Yes, they painted a wall, but I love how they did it.
YAY for Kelli & Kristi @ lolly jane boutique! Even I can cut a diamond template and trace it.
I think.
I’m pretty sure.
I’ll let you know.
In the meantime, I’m gonna reorganize all my bookmarked blog posts.
Oh, I’ll still Google stuff. But when I want a really good tutorial, one that I can actually use, I’m doing a Blog-gle search!
