It’s Toile Good–Baby’s Room Decorating Ideas

J416

Are you a fan of toile de jouy? You know, fabric that is monochromatic with repeated patterns of intricate scenes.

To be honest, I wasn’t. I’ve never been a lace-ruffle-sweetness type of gal. And toile, in my mind fit into that category.

Until I saw babys’ rooms decorated with toile.

Rooms like this one inspired me to try and create toile on canvas.

If you have little ones of your own, you may also know it’s kinda hard to find paintings for nurseries that aren’t, well, goofy, for lack of a better word

If you’ve been here before, you know I paint a lot of art for nurseries.

So I decided to give toile a shot. Or at least, my version of it.

I started off with a very light taupe color, then added deeper and deeper tones on top of it.

I liked how the painting turned out, but I decided to break out my Sharpies. {gulp} It’s always a bit risky – unless you wouldn’t mind painting over hours of work to cover some errant pen strokes.

I like the Sharpie detailing on this one. It added just enough detailing to ‘finish’ it.

What do you think?

Here’s one where I didn’t use Sharpies – just paint.

J415I didn’t have a Sharpie that matched this pink. But I still kinda like it.

Which decorating trends are your favorite for nurseries now? Do you like the geometric patterns, or classic baby prints? How did you decorate for your little one?

And if you’re a fan of toile, stop by Charm Bracelet Diva. She’s having a Toile linky party.
