How To Paint a Spooky Tree – 31 Days of Holiday Paint Projects

Can you remember how fun it was to paint and color when you were a child? For a lot of us, painting a house with a tree next to it was simple. Easy. Fun!

I’m convinced that somewhere along the line the Evil Fairy comes along and bops kids on their heads. Like, between age 9 & 12.

How else can you explain something so fun – like painting trees – turning into something filled with self-doubt, criticism and judgment?

I’ve been told I have a hard head, which explains why I don’t have this problem. At least when it comes to ‘painting trees’.

So I’ve decided to right this wrong done by the Evil Fairy of Bad Thoughts and show you how easy, and fun, it is to paint a tree.

The first thing to know about painting – or drawing – trees is you can’t draw a straight line.

Wait a minute – not YOU can’t draw a straight line. More like, you don’t want to paint a straight line.

Better?

I drew the outline with Sharpies before painting. You don’t have to do that though.

But it does help break the whole evil-spell-thing.

And while I realize that fairies probably don’t cast spells – heck, there’s probably no such thing as an evil fairy anyways – it’s my little story and I’m stickin’ with it.

Oh yeah – the tree tutorial.

1. draw the trunk
2. draw a big ‘Y’ on top of the trunk
3. draw another ‘Y inside the big ‘Y’
4. draw another one if you want
5. add a ton of curvy and/or angled branches

Yep, that’s about it.

Add as many branches as you want.

Try to make them crooked, though, not straight.

Then just fill in your tree with black paint.

 

Well, use black paint if you’re painting a spooky tree to go next to your haunted house, under your harvest moon.

But you could use brown or grey or brown+grey too.

In fact, you can use any color you dang well please because that nasty spell the Evil Fairy put on you has now been broken!
