Stenciled Boys’ Painting – and a GiveAway!!!

I am now officially a stencil convert, thanks to Cutting Edge Stencils.

The harlequin diamond background on this canvas wallhanging took me all of 10 minutes to paint because I used this stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils.

Ten minutes! I used to spend a day, or two, painting harlequin diamonds. And that was just the background!

When Cutting Edge Stencils invited me to choose any stencil, it wasn’t easy. They have an extensive collection, from allover wall size to craft-size stencils.

I was torn between the delicate scrolls or the damask stencils. Just gorgeous! I gotta admit, I was a bit intimidated since I’ve only stenciled a few projects.

I wound up choosing the Harlequin Trellis stencil. I really wanted to see if I could save some time stenciling a background. Saving time would save money and, therefore, save my clients money too!

Along with the all-over stencil, I received a border stencil, an individual diamond stencil, a foam roller, and this very cool Clip-On Stencil Level. Even though I didn’t stencil a wall, now I could with this level. Such a clever idea!

All I needed to add was the paint and a canvas. I used artist canvas (pre-primed) but you could stencil on plain cotton duck canvas too.

Or even some inexpensive white fabric and stencil a quick table runner.

Now, if you think you’re ‘stencil-challenged’ like I did, let me show you how easy this was.

Yep, four steps. That’s it.

If you’d rather see a video on how to stencil, Cutting Edge has some great ones, including this basic one.

Of course, I didn’t stencil a wall, or an entire room. So, yeah, that would take longer, obviously. But for what I do all the time, paint canvases? Fantastic!

Oh, and the clean up? (which is always the part I cannot stand!) Since it’s 40 degrees outside, I just put the stencil in the tub, added a hair trap, took the same foam roller and rolled the paint right off the stencil. Super easy and saved time cleaning the foam roller too.

In just a few minutes I had a great background for a painting for a little boy.

Which made it super easy for me to start my Personalized Baby Wall Art series. Why a “J”? I have no idea. But I have 25 other initials to play with. And that’s just for boys!

So, yes, I’ll be buying some more stencils from Cutting Edge, believe me!
