Simple Fall Decor

Simple fall décor. When I use the word “simple”, it usually means one of two things – 1) I’m not finished with the project so therefore it is “simple” or 2) I’ve done the project so many times it feels comfortable to me and therefore “simple”.

My front porch is a little of both. I’ve done floral design and merchandising for so many years that seasonal decorating always feels comfortable. And the porch is unfinished from the standpoint that I still have decorations I’d like to put up.

Bear in mind that I never finish decorating for a holiday. As long as I still have paint and/or ribbon, there are potential projects floating around in my head.

I wanted to post this today though because I’m excited to link up to Rhoda’s Front Door party. I’ve never met Miss Rhoda in real life but she has been so warm and kind to me online – a true southern lady through and through.

I started with fabric, just like the Halloween décor, burlap this time. I have a little thrifty burlap tip for you -

I snagged this entire pile of burlap at Home Depot for under $4! It’s huge too. You can find it in the garden section. When I saw the price I couldn’t believe it so I asked a garden employee and then the cashier too.

They thought I was nuts, although I do believe I restrained myself from actually jumping up and down. Besides, I’m used to Home Depot peeps thinking I’m nuts.

I just cut a small piece and laid it on our little bistro table then added a $3 bale of hay (Walmart) some mini pumpkins (Safeway) and pinecones (our yard).

Not a bad foundation. But I ‘gots’ more stuff from the dollar store.

Ok, the branch came from my yard, not the dollar store, so it was an even better deal.

I just crammed the stems right into the hay bale. No glue, no foam needed.

I clipped the dollar store floral bush apart so I could put the stems where I wanted them, not all in one big clump.

A little green bucket just for height and color, then some more dollar store gourds at the base to balance the color.

Then just add some fall leaves to fill in. I’ve had these for a few years, which is why I love ‘silks’ – you can use them over and over and over.

Just a simple little display.

Fall colors.

Varying textures.

I don’t have any of the same product I used for my wreath, and I still like it *shock*, so I just used coordinating colors.

No, I don’t do “full” wreaths. In my own defense, I’ve made so many wreaths over the years – hundreds, maybe thousands when I was the floral designer at a craft store.

Besides, I like the look of grapevine wreaths and I want that rustic quality to be seen on my door.

Along with the assortment of autumn tones and textures.
