I’ve gathered some ideas together for Thanksgiving for a couple of reasons.
First, I’ve joined 20 other bloggers for a Virtual Progressive Thanksgiving Dinner, where you can start here and then progress from blog to blog to get inspiration for your own Thanksgiving dinner.
Very cool, right?
Secondly, as most people know, Thanksgiving is the traditional hallmark for the ending of Fall.
Bye bye pumpkins.
Hello pine boughs.
See ya, dried foliage.
Welcome back, glitz and glitter.
Adios . . .
Ok, you get the point.
So let’s talk Decorating for Fall’s final hurrah of the year.
If you’re hosting Thanksgiving Dinner this year, you’ll want to set the tone at your front entry. But it doesn’t have to be anything lavish. Just Simple Fall Décor will welcome your guests with color and texture.
Once inside, look around and determine where your family and friends will be spending the most time.
Besides at the table, of course.
A quick and easy decorating showcase is the mantel, or any tableau you have. If you’ve struggled with decorating mantels before, here are some tips that might help a bit.
But seriously? You and I both know the star of that Thursday is the dinner table.
Maybe you go all out with fine linen and china.
Or maybe you’re like me.
Truth be told, I like to mix things up, combine heirlooms with handmade. I like how blending textures adds warmth to the table.
Here are a few ideas for table decorations.
Burlap is such a great texture for Fall, even for Thanksgiving. You can layer it over a tablecloth or use it alone. Add a stenciled touch to coordinate your color palette.
If you’re feeling more ambitious, dress up plain muslin with fall leaves and berries in metallic and glitter paints.
For the center of the table, consider fresh fruit rather than flowers.
Although a basket of fall flowers and cattails is easily removed when Tom makes his appearance.
(the turkey. But you knew that, didn’t you.)
You don’t have to have a centerpiece at all though. Just use what you’ve got and create a stunning display.
Add shimmer with votives and tealights in handpainted faux “mercury glass”.
Handpainted wine goblets add a gorgeous decorative touch at each place setting.
As do napkins painted with a touch of shimmery paint.
Make these burlap napkin holders for Thanksgiving, then add the poinsettias and holly afterwards for Christmas.
They’ll tie back beautifully to your burlap runner.
Really, decorating doesn’t have to be difficult and you don’t have to have a china cabinet full of holiday pieces.
With a little creativity . . . and a bit of paint here and there . . . you can make your own lovely decorations.
Now . . . let’s get to the rest of the Virtual Progressive Thanksgiving Dinner, shall we?
