A few months ago he all of a sudden noticed our weathervane on top of the pool pumphouse – a rooster. “Doo-doo!” he exclaimed. I looked in the direction he was looking and, as any proud grandmother would, got so excited that he recognized an animal and made the connection of the shape with the animal’s ‘voice.’
Now, I actually live in a quaint red farmhouse that lends itself to country decor . . .
however, I’m not a huge fan of the style. I had a rooster here and there, courtesy of my girlfriend who picked them up on her travels.
But this summer, inspired by an almost-2-yr-old, I went all out w/roosters.
Kitchen curtains & towel rack that drives everyone crazy, but I love the look of it.
My personal faves – a cushy mat and beautiful cookie jar I got for $10 @ TJ Maxx.
About this time, Santino started saying “cock – a – doo – doo,” which kept me going, taking the theme into the what-should-be dining room (but is really only a pass-thru).
If you look closely, there’s a rooster on the little blue container.
Then, back into the kitchen . . .
Ok, so I know I went overboard, especially since I’m not into themes. But Santino was just so cute, each time he’d come for a visit and would notice the new doo-doo’s. I couldn’t help myself.
I’m done now – no more roosters, well, except for that casserole set I just got on QVC. No truly, I’m done. Besides, we took Santino to the State Fair last weekend where he saw live roosters. He couldn’t contain himself in the stroller, so we let him out and his little legs danced with joy as he looked at the real roosters in the cages.
No more “cock-a-doo-doo”.
Now it’s “rrr-ah-rrr-rrr rrrrr”.
