A Toile Bunny

With the holidays over, it’s time to get-my-painting-on. One of my favorite decorative themes for little ones is toile. I love how it’s sweet, but has a bit of sophistication too.

Here is my first toile painting of simple bunnies, tree, mushrooms, surrounded by vines and roses.
I choose pale pinks graduating up to deep mauve. It’s a 16 x 20, but I’ll have it printed in some smaller sizes. I also want to do some companion pieces.

I started with a base coat of the palest pink, let it dry, and then rough-sketched the bunny. (guess my flash was off as there’s a lot of yellow in these pics – not in real life, tho.)

Then I started painting in a soft pink. I really liked it here, but had to try deepening the pink tones, just to see what happened.

So the center elements and parts of the vine are shaded here.

I really like working with pinks, especially after raising 3 boys and having a grandson. Pinks just feel soft and good. But I want to do a few in tans & mocha’s too.
