Many people say it’s the mark of a creative person – too many hats, not enough time. Other people say it’s adult ADD, which I must admit is what it feels like most days. Try as I might, I just cannot focus my efforts in only one area.
Then, finally,
Now, if you’ve followed my blog for a few months, you know my challenges with writing about feng shui. Even though I’ve taught classes, done consultations & seen the results – it still seems a bit ‘out there.’ Like, I didn’t want to be known as ‘one of those’ people.
But I keep coming back to feng shui. To me, most of the books on it use a ton of chinese symbolisms, which a lot of people don’t want in their homes. It really doesn’t have to be that way.
Then add in my artwork. I’ve been all over the map with it the past 13 years. Like blogging, ‘everyone’ says to find a niche and stick with it. Uhhh, I would if I could, but I love painting pets, landscapes, baby art . . . you name it. No niche for me.
Then it hit me – just add feng shui tags to my artwork! Does that mean all my paintings would have chinese symbols? Absolutely not.
For instance, this Old World Urn wall hanging doesn’t look like feng shui at all. But the colors have Earth element energy & the slight arch of the border has Metal element. In feng shui, this would translate into Stability (Earth) & Creativity (Metal) & would enhance those energies in the room where it hangs.
What about a Storybook Castle for a little girl’s room? The pastel colors are Metal, the pointed rooftops are Fire, the flowering vine is Wood. That’s a nice balance of elements to add to a bedroom.
Are you seeing where I’m going? I’m so excited – to be able to combine my artwork, feng shui, and also writing, feels sooo good. It’s like someone shined a light on a dark path and now I can see where I’m going.
Let’s do another one. A simple ivy topiary painted in a wall niche.
The ivy is Wood, background & urn colors are Earth, and the obelisk pyramid is Fire. The arch in the niche adds Metal. Turns out this is a really well-balanced piece. And I just painted it because it’s what the client wanted.
So does this mean my paintings will change? Probably not. I’ll still paint dogs & baby art & tuscan scenes & whatever else inspires me. I may throw in some obvious feng shui paintings. But mainly it means that in my li’l ol’ pea brain there is a direction, a focus, a bridging between all 3 of my career choices – art, feng shui & writing.
If people think because I write about feng shui I’m ‘out there,’ so be it. Maybe I am. But based upon your responses to my FS posts, there are more people who want harmony & balance in their homes, than not.
You know what? It just dawned on me. I’ve been clearing clutter in my Career area. Hmmm. Do you think . . . ?
So tell me, because I want to start a new painting (heehee), what one area would you like to enhance or bring balance to in your life? Career. Wisdom. Personal Growth. Wealth. Fame. Love. Creativity. Helpful People. Health? Or maybe combinations of a few?
Thanks so much for ‘listening’. Have a blessed day!
Colleen
