Happy Easter!

alanandannmillershipwsm_470x350

Hope everyone is having a wonderful day & counting their blessings this morning. Grandson is coming over later for his easter egg hunt, so I have a little time to write before toddler mania ensues.

Just got off the phone with my mother and we took a stroll down memory lane – past Easters when I was a little girl. She used to get up when it was still dark and hide the eggs. And no plastic ones, the real deal that we had dyed.

Usually my big sister would be home for Easter week – this was before Spring Break meant partying – and she and I would decorate eggs together. She’d water down some paint, dip a little on the egg and we’d blow the paint to make all sorts of abstract designs.

Easter morning we’d all head off to church, except for Dad. I can’t remember him ever going to church, except for my wedding. I loved Easter Mass. I’d have on a pretty new dress with new shoes and hat to match. Mom always made sure I was dressed like a little doll. The benefits of being the youngest child with a five year gap between me and the older kids!

After church, we’d change our clothes and run around, hunting eggs. Mom always made sure our baskets were full of See’s candy too. Have you checked the price of See’s lately? Whew! Would be hard to do nowadays with 5 kids.

Mom would’ve already baked for the Easter brunch, and had waffles ready for the iron. We’d almost always have drop-in visitors. It seemed our house was always full to the gills.

To this day, I don’t know how she did it. Five kids, a family business, and she always made our holidays special. It wears me out just thinking about all she used to do.

Talking to her this morning, we both agreed there’s something to be said for having quiet days now – no dinner to fix or clean up, no huge crowds. Just peace & quiet, which can be a blessing, if you choose to look at it that way.

While it may seem sad that neither my Hubs’ family or my own is getting together today, I can also find joy in the serenity of the day. That is, until Grandson gets here. Not much tranquility in a 2-1/2 year old, unless he’s napping!

I hope whatever you’re doing today, whoever you’re with, you find joy and peace and Easter renewal. The older I get, the more I savor each day. Hope you do the same today!

Colleen
