I painted this easy sky & hillside as a backdrop for my Recycled Candleholders. I’m trying to learn more about shooting videos so I set up my tripod and pressed “record”.
This is a time lapse video but you’ll get the idea of how to paint the sky and hills.
I used only 3 colors of paint:
- Blissful Blue by Ceramcoat
- Wicker White by Folk Art
- Fresh Foliage, Folk Art
For blending, I also used Folk Art’s Floating Medium. I painted this on flat canvas but you can use the same method on walls too. I’ve used floating medium for walls but I’ve also used Floetrol. Both work well.
You can use nearly any kind of brush. A trim brush (2 – 2-1/2”) works great on walls and larger canvases. Even a foam brush will work but the blending is a little different. I used my favorite – a 1-1/2” brush by Plaid. It’s a bit pricey but well worth it, imo. Sometimes you can find it at Walmart or even Michael’s where you could use their 40% coupon. If you’re painting any mural or large paintings at all, I highly recommend this brush.
So, now that I have a background, what should I paint in the foreground? A garden scene? A farm? An arbor with climbing flowers? The possibilities are endless, aren’t they?
