Are you a color snob? I am, I must admit. Especially when it comes to gray. Gray is a color I’d never think of using in baby nurseries. I could blame my snobbishness on my age. Why not? I blame every other malady – physical or mental – on my age nowadays. But no. Today I’m reforming my formerly snobby ways.
I was googling baby nurseries to get some ideas for new paintings and I wanted to see color trends.
Goodness. I had no idea pink and gray was such a popular combination.
Probably because I haven’t been in a baby’s room for quite a while. When I was painting murals I was always treated to seeing the beautiful homes of my clients. Now that I’m painting canvases for sale & reproduction I’m relying on beautiful websites, like Houzz.com, Project Nursery, Poshtots, and Pottery Barn Kids.

I never would’ve thought of gray walls, but they make a lovely backdrop for the pink and white furnishings in this nursery. Definitely a romantic feel, but also a touch of modern too.

How gorgeous is this room, with the board and batten treatment topped with gray? There’s a romantic feel in this room too.
I’m beginning to change how I think about gray. When paired with pink and/or white, it lends a soft touch.
Or does it? Take the colors a few shades down to a richer hue and the room takes on a fun, contemporary feel.
I love how this room’s bright pink is tempered by the gray window treatments and patterned wallpaper.

I’m definitely partial to the soft tones though. So tranquil. So calming.
Ok. I’m ready to paint some sweet pink and gray canvases and shed my snobby-about-gray attitude.
Except for my hair, that is. Huh uh. That gray will stay covered for a while longer thankyouverymuch.
What’s your favorite color combination right now? For a baby’s room or any other room? Are you a color-snob?
