There are times when the Universe tells you to . . .
slowww dowwwnnn.
Did you know that? It’s true.
You might think you’re handling it all . . . hospital visits, daily blog posts, revamping the website . . . oh yes, you’ve got this.
Or, so you think.
And then you miss a date. A blog project date. Not just any blog project . . .
one where 13 other bloggers are counting on you.
But you, Miss Handling It All, you have it together. You have it on your calendar. You know you have enough time to . . .
do it all.
Until you’re sitting in a parking lot out of town, fiddling with your emails, and you notice one of the sweet 13 bloggers says . . .
Colleen, where’s your post today?
Surely you didn’t get the date wrong, not you who’s handling it all. No, there must be a reasonable mistake. You’re not one of ‘those’ people who get dates and times wrong. Huh-uh, not you.
All the while you hear the Universe whispering,
slowww dowwwnnn.
And when you get home, you check the calendar on the computer (since you can’t see the one on your phone, even with granny glasses) and there it is, plain as day . . .
Just Paint It, Tuesday, February 4
sigh.
Luckily, you have very understanding friends who let you post your non-Valentine Valentine’s craft the next day.
But after that’s done, you’re going to look at your calendar, look at your To Do list, and do some rearranging before a date slips by again.
Without friends who understand.
How To Stencil a Dollar Store Votive
Materials
- glass votive and candle from the dollar store
- self-adhesive stencil
- rubbing alcohol and cotton ball
- multi surface paint (I used satin and pearl)
- foam pouncer
After washing the glass votive, wipe it down with rubbing alcohol and let dry.
Tape around the bottom rim of the votive so you’ll have a measuring gauge to keep the stencil even on all sides.
Line up the stencil with the tape on the bottom and eyeball it for center placement.
Load your foam pouncer so it’s even covered.
Pounce the paint on the votive. (not shown)
Wipe the stencil off with a damp paper towel in between each paint application. Dry both sides of stencil, otherwise you’ll get over-paint on your next application.
After the satin paint dries, apply the pearl.
Ok, so there are two ways you can do this – either stencil the satin, leave the stencil in place and wait for the satin to dry, then pounce the pearl on. <------ Smart Way
Or, you can stencil all four sides, set the votive in front of the heater to dry (no, I didn’t think of my hair dryer), then take a fine liner brush and paint the pearl over the itsy-bitsy stencil parts. <------Not-so-smart Way
You choose.
Make sure you keep the little acetate backing to put your stencil back on to save for another non-Valentine Valentine.
Of course, these are fun and easy to do on any day, for anyone.
Like maybe some nice bloggy friends.
Like maybe these gals below who made actual Valentine Valentine’s. Go by and check them out!
