I Spy a Doo-Doo (Rooster)!

Daily Inspiration -
It’s true that money can provide comfort & ease, but it’s the small & simple things that truly bring us joy.

I’m so excited to be participating in Barb’s Rooster party! If you love roosters as much as I do, head over to BellaVista and see everyone else’s.

I first wrote about my rooster collection when my grandson had just turned 2 and had noticed a rooster weathervane on our pool pumphouse.

When he was about 18 months old, he pointed to the rooster and exclaimed, “Doo-doo!” I looked in the direction he was looking and, as any proud grandmother would, got so excited that he recognized an animal and made the connection of the shape with the animal’s ‘voice.’

He’s now nearly 3 and has a very full vocabulary, thank you very much. In fact, it’s hard to remember when he didn’t talk so much!

But I digress – this post is all about Roosters. Once Grandson said ‘Doo-Doo’ I went on a weekly shopping spree for roosters. He’d run into the house each week and we'd play our own little game of I Spy a Doo-Doo!

Since I live in a little red farmhouse, roosters fit in quite nicely. The first one you see is tucked in on the porch table, next to the water fountain.

The first room you see upon entering is the kitchen. The window looks out onto a horrendous functional laundry room. So I grabbed some rooster panels for camouflage. The hand towels were a steal @ Walmart for $1 each. Who could refuse? And the photo quality is quite poor – sorry – but the finial on top of the paper towel holder is also a rooster.

My dear friend picks up roosters on all of her travels. There was always some new Doo-Doo for Grandson to spy!

I also found my fav throw rug @ Walmart!

The rooster cookie jar doesn’t actually sit on my cooktop – I just placed it there to incorporate it with the foam mat.

Some more assorted roosters I’ve collected.

Over the past year, I laid off on the roosters. I just frankly ran out of room! That, and Grandson is not nearly so enamored with them. But for one special summer, a special little boy ran into the house each week & looked for a new Doo-Doo!

Special thanks Barb @ Bella Vista for hosting such a fun linky party. I’d forgotten just how much fun collecting all of my roosters was.

What about you? Do you have a collection? Do you group all the items together or spread them all over the house?

  3. Your grandson is just precious and as cute as can be. I think he may have stolen the rooster thunder, but that being said, I love the weathervane, Char

  5. As interesting and attractive as the rooster collection is, your Grandson's smile is the main attraction of this post. The boy has STAR quality. I remember that it seemed to take a while for my son to begin speaking and then for years I could not get a word in.
