It’s been a long time since I wrote about feng shui, but after moving, seeing all the Stuff I had, staying at Mom’s and seeing all her stuff, I knew I had to get back to practicing feng shui.
And since I’ve decided to share nearly everything with you all (nearly), I’m taking you along for the ride.
Don’t worry. You can get off any time you like.
Here’s the thing about feng shui though – it’s complex. It can be complicated, depending upon the theory.
I practice the simplest one – Black Hat Sect. A lot of practitioners thumb their noses at BHS, but I don’t care. When I taught FS classes and did inhome consultations, I saw and heard the results.
Now, there are tons of books written on FS. Great! But I still get asked all the time -
How and Where do I start?
I’m thinkin’ about doing a FlyLady kinda thing. Baby Steps.
There’s no way to FS your house entirely at once, anyway. And if you could, it’d be utter chaos, believe me. Not good. No. No. No.
Baby Steps. That’s what we’re gonna do.
But, remember. I said it’s complex. Don’t feel like you have to ‘get it’ all at once. I didn’t. Still don’t.
But once you feel the energy move in your living space, you’ll want more. And more.
Okay, let’s get started with the Bagua map. {Baa-gwah} Nine areas (called gua’s).
bagua map
This is my no-frills bagua. Just each area and the associated color.
Baby Steps,okay?
Here’s how you use the bagua. See the bottom line? Underneath Knowledge, Journey & Helpful People? See how it’s a broken line?
That’s my little DOOR diagram.
See how it kinda looks like an open door? Humor me, okay? I don’t have a drawing program and didn’t feel like sketching simple lines.
Okay, that’s how you position the Bagua – your front door will be in one of those 3 areas. If it’s on the left of your house, it’ll be in Knowledge. If it’s on the right – Helpful People. If it lands in the center – Journey.
Get it?
Are there exceptions? Of course. Loads of them.
We’re just getting started, so hang in there, ‘kay?
So here’s today’s tip -
- Get up.
- Go outside your front door.
- Look at the entire front of your home.
- Determine which gua your front door is in.
That’s it. That’s all, Folks.
Well, okay, if you want extra credit, start drawing a footprint floorplan of your house.
At some point, you’re going to want it. And when you have one drawn, you can lay the Bagua over your house.
I draw my footprints on copy paper, slip it in a sheet protector, then draw the Bagua on the plastic with a Sharpie.
It’s not hi-tech, but it works for me.
For now, just take a look at where your front door is, then we’ll move on from there!
Got it! Knowledge ... ready for next step!
