Calling All List Makers

Are you a List Maker? Do you write list upon list upon list?

And then make a list of all your lists?

I’m serious!

If you’re not a List Maker, you have no idea what I’m talking about.

If you are, maybe you can help a girl out.

I’m in a state of overwhelm today. It’s not a foreign state to me. It’s actually quite a familiar place I visit.

Just a bit scattered.

Should I blog, or paint?

What should I paint?

Which blog should I work on?

Maybe I should just clean.

What area should I clean?

Scattered.

So I thought – I’ll check my list.

Not that list. That list.

Where is that list?

I quit making lists on paper a few months ago. Ah yes, the digital age. Everything on the computer.

With paper back-ups, though.

I’ve had enough computer crashes in my time to know there’s nothing like good old-fashioned paper and manila folders.

But the majority of my lists are on the computer.

There’s One Note. I love this program because of all the tabs. And you can just start a topic anywhere on the page.

I start a lot of topics.

Then’s there’s good ol’ Microsoft Word. I’ve been using Word since my Mac days in the ‘80’s.

Love Word. Documents (papers) into Folders (files). Just like the real, unvirtual life.

But if you’re online very much you need to save all those wonderful sites. With Bookmarks. Or Favorites.

More files.

More lists.

I used to manage offices. People actually paid me to do this. With money. Real money.

Back then, I used one steno pad.

The doctor would tell me to do something. I’d write it down.

A patient would call, needing something, I’d write it down.

An insurance company would call, I’d write it down.

Line after line. All in one place. On one pad.

Simple, huh?

I’d put the date on the bottom of the page. Then I’d go thru each task, crossing it off, one by one.

When someone asked me, “Did so and so call?” I’d flip thru a few pages, find the call, find the date and I knew if and when the issue had been handled.

Simple.

This was, of course, before the internet. Before personal computers.

Before blogs.

So, in an effort to declutter my computer – and my mind – I’m organizing and deleting lists today.

Now then. . . where should I start?

Hmmm. I need a list.

  1. haha You crack me up... Im the SAME way! Maybe not as many list.. cause i find I dont have time to make lists with 3 young ones.. but Im always feeling compelled and thinking.. ok I should make a lit for that! haha

I usually keep lists on my phone under the "note pad" tool ONly because I like to have my lists on me where ever I go to check and recheck and write a new list right away if I need to. LOL I even keep a small hard bound note book in my purse for other notes and stuff i feel the need to write down and remember.

I find that when Im cleaning.. it helps me if I make a list first of all that needs to be done. And I even organize my list with sub categories.. such as Kitchen: Dishes, sweep, mop ect..
I make lists for different stores I shop at.. so if I need something I start a list for say walmart or dollar tree and put the item in that list. Then next time Im at that store I open my phone to the note pad and check that list! I have so many things in there its insane.. just for example I here are a few I have on top:
-Nail Polishes I have (I have this because I am always tempted to buy new cute polishes but forget which ones I have and dont want to buy extra)
-To do list (this is my in general to do list, stuff that doesnt need to be done right away, but when I have free time.. I check that list for something I could be doing/working on)
-Painting ideas (I always seem to get good ideas when I dont have the time to do them, then when I have the time I cant think of anything.. so I have that list lol)
The lists go on... oh and I am an organizer too.. If you were to look in my picture folders on my computer there is a folder for everything. Family photos, separate folders for each member of my family, craft folder, idea folder, my design folder.. everything.. same with bookmarks.
I hated clicking on book mark to a HUGE Long un organized list.. so I made separate folder for each category that I have book marked. A folder for my husband s bookmarks, craft ideas, food recipes, tutorials, references, resources, font sites, blogs, fav youtubes, home decor, just for fun.. LOL The lists go on.. and even then im still compelled to add folders within the folders to organize those things too!
Im glad to know IM not just INSANE! haha and that others do this too. :)

  3. I make lists all the time. Don't know how I'd do without them. I prefer to handwrite them and then rewrite them again neatly to update them. It works for me. Glad I'm not the only one... P.S. I don't know how you keep up more than one blog with all that you do! Superwoman! :)
