I don’t usually make resolutions. But every day I write affirmations. Does that count?
If I had one resolution for 2011, it would be to design and create a full line of painting kits/tutorials.
Then I guess I’d need a 2nd resolution – to get tons of people to try them out. That’s not so much a resolution as a mission that I’m on.
Twenty years ago, when I was teaching dance, I taught adult beginners. They’d walk in, shrouded in over-sized tshirts and sweatshirts and huge sweat pants. Something about the mirror stretching wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling, made them practically hug the back wall.
I’d start the music and get them moving. Shoulders hunched, heads bowed, they’d meekly follow along. They hardly looked like they were enjoying themselves. But they’d come to the next class.
After about 2 weeks a magical transformation would occur. A metamorphosis, really. Off with the t-shirts. Off with the sweatpants. Just leotards and tights. (It was the 80’s, okay?) But the real transformation was how they moved . . . confident and strong. They quit moving to music and started Dancing!
For me, that was better than dancing myself – seeing other women dance with utter joy.
The same thing happens with painting, oddly enough. Women start out, extremely self-critical, comparing their painting to mine. Uh, I’ve been doing it for just a few years. Like 15!
After a couple of weeks though, the same metamorphosis would happen. They’d boldly put the paint on the paper. They’d mix colors – just to see what new hue they could create. They took delight when their friends would exclaim, “You painted that?!?”
Yep. For me, better than painting an entire mural – seeing others discover their inner artist.
So bring on 2011. I’m ready. I’ve got tons of Spring paint projects for you to try.
These were 2010’s top picks.
Paint Tutorials & Projects
Who knew people loved Artichokes so much? What other veggies do you like . . . I mean to paint!
Don’t you love how easy Pumpkins are to paint? Me, too!
Eat Pray Love didn’t live up to the marketing hype, but I still love Julia Roberts. Hey, I could paint something for each of her movies!
Wait a minute . . . what would I do for Pretty Woman? Okay, forget that idea.
Hands down, the winner of all flowers is the Sunflower. It amazes me, but people love their sunflowers.
Look for more elements to add to your sunflower painting – vases, pots, watering can, etc. Any other ideas?
I was thrilled with the support I received about the HGTV announcement. I don’t even know if my projects will air, but it was still fun.
Cold, but fun. Chaotic, but fun. Too many people, but fun. Too much good food, but fun. . .
Kinda like 2010!
