Behind The Scenes – Part 3

Remember this pile of styrofoam I showed you? You won’t believe what some very talented artisans did with it.

 

These gals are two incredible sculptors, believe me.

See all the round balls on the table back there? Those are all ‘heads’ waiting to be attached to snowmen bodies.

They used pipe for arms and carved everything else – heads, noses, bodies, hands.

One of the guys rigged this sled teeter-totter for snowmen to play on. (I can’t show you now, but I believe it actually moved up and down. . . sshhh, don’t tell.)

 

They sculpted some penguins too that I got to paint.  The snow people were basecoated with a pearlized white and shaded with pearlized blues and teals.

Some of us used rags. Some used chip brushes. One gal, after painting quite a few body parts resorted to her fingers.

 

See that guy kneeling there with the welder hat on? And he’s holding a big piece of square tubing? It’s actually hinged in the middle. And they’re discussing how it’s gonna fit inside that snowman’s body. And make it bend.

Remember, the snowmen are styrofoam. Foam! With a hinged metal tube inside it. That bends!

Sorry, you’ll just have to wait ‘til the show airs to see the whole snow family.

It’ll be worth the wait, I promise.

For now, take a look at Grandma who stopped by for a little nip, with poodle on arm.

And I thought styrofoam was just for packing boxes!
