We’re here. There. In the new/old house.
I’d love to say it’s over, but obviously from the picture above, it’s just beginning.
We got almost everything over on Saturday. Saturday, when the weather forecast said sunny, but in the afternoon there were snow flurries.
Fun times.
I will say we were unbelievably blessed with helpers.
A gal from my aerobics class and her husband showed up at 8:30 a.m. with a pick-up, a dolly, and MUFFINS! Fresh-baked muffins.
Now, that’s a true friend!
They were incredible. As was BBH.
Since we’ve moved so many times, I knew how BBH operates – Fast, Strong, Smart.
I just sit back and watch him.
Well, okay, I wasn’t actually sitting. But I was watching.
Is it weird to watch your man loading and moving and unloading and be filled to the very top with love?
If it is, then call me Weird.
You won’t be the first.
Yesterday, we got the last junk stuff out. Then Overwhelm set in.
Yes, every box is labeled. But they’re all stacked in the dining room and garage.
Yes, all the furniture is in – upstairs and downstairs, but the dining room set is in the living room, making it a wee bit crowded.
Yes, I have internet, but no TV or landline telephone.
I’m already on my 2nd cup of coffee this morning, so I truly am counting my blessings.
Let me ask you this – what’s the very first thing you do when you move into a new house? Besides unloading all your stuff, I mean.
Me? I have to line the shelves. I have to.
I dunno – it’s like claiming my territory. And in this new/old 1920’s house, it was way, waaaay overdue for some new liner.
Luckily, all of my art supplies are pretty well organized and are in my new studio/room. So I grabbed my measuring mat and rotary cutter and went to town.
This is the only way to go, friends. If you do any crafting or sewing or artsy stuff at all, invest in a mat and a rotary cutter.
We had debated whether to paint the kitchen first or just put everything away.
It was a short debate. Mainly because it’s so cold in this house, enamel is more like putty than paint.
So I opted to just line the shelves and start unpacking.
That’s not a spider above. It’s a cord poking thru. I took this pick just so you could see the grunge on the shelf.
Don’t you love me? I mean, who else shows you grunge on Monday morning?
And just look at the old decrepit cute vintage cabinet pulls.
I’m already on the hunt for new ones, believe me.
And, lest you think the cabinets look like the just need a good cleaning, here’s what the majority of them have inside.
I always said I wasn’t good at crackle. But this wasn’t exactly what I had in mind.
Whelp, the worst is over. Unfortunately – or maybe fortunately – this is a week full of appointments. Lawyer, doctors, mural clients.
Part of me wishes I could just devote all my time to unpacking and organizing.
My back and left shoulder, however, are grateful for the interruptions.
I’m off to aerobics now. Seriously.
Do you ever feel like your life is a bad sit-com? Or is it just me?
Thanks for listening to my rants. You guys are my salvation nowadays!
