Trying to Find The Joys of Moving

Semi-trailers, such as this one from Carolina ...

I try to be a positive person. (Emphasis on “try”. )

You know what they say, if you ‘try’ to do something, it means you haven’t actually done it.

Which means, I’m not a naturally positive person. But I try to be.

I’ve been looking back over all the moves I’ve made in my adult life. Blogging does that to you – or maybe it’s just me – you start looking back over your life and the experiences you’ve made and choices you’ve chosen. Trying to find more content to write about, I guess.

I have moved a total of 13 times since I was 17. I guess that’s not too bad for 35 years. This move makes #14. And this morning, with two days left to pack, I’m feeling anything but positive. Or joyful.

What is it about moving that is so horrendous?

Tell anyone you’re moving and they all respond with the same answer. Groan!

Nobody seems to enjoy the process of packing Every.Single.Item. in your house, loading trucks and trailers, unloading trucks and trailers, and then unpacking Every.Single.Item.

Huh! Yeah, I wonder why we don’t enjoy this?

After looking back over all my moves as an adult, and all the issues I had with them – running out of time to pack everything, having people help move and unpack and not being able to find anything {for years!}, etc., etc. – I realized the common denominator in all the moves was Me!

The one who ‘tries’ to be organized and isn’t? Me!

The one who procrastinates until the last few days and then throws everything into boxes? Me!

The one who dreads moving more than going to the dentist? Me!

Being that I’m a lifelong student of Positive Thinking, it has dawned on me that I need to shift my perspective on moving.

I mean, sure, nobody actually enjoys the process, but there have to be some positive aspects to it, right?

Right?!?

{crickets chirping}

Well, I’m gonna try. (Ugh, there’s that word again.)

I’m gonna try Today. Or maybe tonight. Or tomorrow. Later.

Right now, I have to pack a bunch more boxes of stuff.
