Designing a Pink Nursery for Baby Girl

Before I got to my clients’ home yesterday, I was speculating what colors they had in mind for their soon-to-be-born baby girl. I guessed aqua/turquoise & brown.

I was wrong.

And I’m so glad I was. There’s just something about pink nurseries.

(Especially when you’re a mom to 3 boys/men and a grandmother to a ‘big’ boy.)

But the pink they’ve chosen isn’t just ‘pink’ . . . it’s the softest, sweetest ‘petal pink’ I’ve seen.

And I just adore the toile print on the petal pink background. My mind started whirling the minute I saw the fabric swatch.

Then I saw the crib ‘big brother’ used, ready to be put together. The finish on it is exquisite – not quite gold and not quite bronze.

And look at the striped silk for the dust ruffle. See that little stripe of ‘champagne’? Perfect with the crib. (Perfect with the toile too. I just didn’t capture it properly on camera.)

So they have a great start – crib, yummy fabric, and a great space ready to be transformed into a beautiful, welcoming room for Baby Sister.

Now my work begins . . . a castle mural? Soft, watercolors? Or tone-on-tone toile?

The clients had some books and photos of things they liked, but weren’t ‘quite right’. Which is why you hire a muralist, by the way!

They told me they’re ordering a chandelier, but I haven’t seen the style.

I just had fun looking at these sweet pink chandy’s.

Pink crystals? How divine!

Or maybe crystals with sweet pink silk shades? More yum.

I had to stop dreaming browsing and get to work. So I started looking at pink nurseries.

Pink – check! Chandelier – check! And just look at the bed – it’s the same as my client’s, only in white.

(Nice, but I like the antique gold.)

But no mural on the wall! Keep looking.

It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it . . .

I swear I wasn’t trying to find the same bed, but here it is again – in white, again.

What caught my eye in this vignette are the trompe l’oeil medallions painted on the wall. This is more of what I had in mind. Not the medallions exactly, but the tone-on-tone.

Same bed, but these pics are all from the same site. Check out the mural on the wall – soft, ethereal. Almost perfect.

Almost.

Seeing three different vignettes in pink and a white bed, I’m now really, really happy they’re using the antique gold crib.

Oh, I love the white and pink too. But the antique gold with the pink and champagne stripes create feel of classic elegance, don’t you think?

Now I get to play and play diligently work on creating samples for wall murals and murals on canvas for a very special little girl.

Like I said, it’s a tough job . . .
