8 Ways To Use Damask in Decorating

Are you a fan of damask print? Judging from the response on my little Louboutin shoe painting, a lot of you are fans. Big fans.

Btw, I added a little ‘bling’ to the painting. Just a few gems and glitter. What d’ya think? Think my niece-to-be will like it?

I wanted to share some ideas for decorating with damask, other than stenciling it on walls.

milk and honey home

Although damask in green is fresh and sweet on this focal wall by Milk & Honey Home, isn’t it?

a little great

How about in orange? I know, I know, orange isn’t one of my favorites, even though it is the color of 2012. But if – and that’s a big if – I was going to introduce orange into my color palette, this would be a fun way to do it.

Pottery Barn Teen

I prefer black and white, like this all-over damask in Pottery Barn bedding. It’s so crisp against the white, but I could see pops of color too. Maybe turquoise? Or even some pastels would work and soften the entire room.

Let’s say you want just a touch of damask in a room.

Target

A bedside lamp with a damask shade would be perfect. Doesn’t it look all elegant and rich? It’s from Tarjay. Funny how damask adds that expensive look, isn’t it?

Twice Lovely Furniture

Damask even works if used in an over-sized, graphic display like this dresser that Ann Marie of Twice Lovely Furniture painted. Gorg.  A perfect marriage of contemporary and classic.

Wedding Rumors

That could be why there’s such a trend of damask in weddings. Elegant without being fussy. Stylish, but not trendy.

So how do you get all of these great looks using damask? Well, you know I’m gonna say stencils & paint, of course. But just think about it – when you paint it yourself you get to choose the colors you want! Of course, you can also find damask in fabric stores, as well as scrapbook papers.

Etsy

Then you can snag an big ol’ ampersand and decoupage the paper or fabric on it!

Ok, so I guess you could also make some drapes or pillows out of the fabric too. Smile(But you could totally stencil some dropcloths too, you know.)

Sunnys Paint

Or even a floor! Of course, you might wanna think twice, or even 3 times, before you tackle paint a floor. Oh, it’s totally do-able and obviously makes a great statement. I just have one suggestion: when you’re guestimating how long it’ll take, triple it.

I’m just sayin’ . . .

Okay, your turn. What are some of your favorite patterns? Plaid? Chevron? Stripes? Polka dots? Paisley? Or do you mix and match ‘em all?
