Don’t look now . . . it’s SpiderBunny!!!

Spider-Bunny

Did you have a great Easter? I hope so! Lemme tell you, I have a failsafe way to make your Easter absolutely incredible – share it with a 4 year old. In my case, the ace-in-the-hole was my grandson, which made it even more delicious.

You see, since I’m a stepmother and my boys were 7, 10, & 12 when they moved in, I missed all of the festivities as they’d spend Easter week with their mother. It never dawned on me to plan well in advance to do some crafting before Spring break.

Like I said, I’m a stepmother, mmkay?

Easter-aisle

So being able to play Easter Bunny is an incredible blessing for me. Of course, that doesn’t mean I didn’t wait until the last minute to pull it all together though. Last Friday me and all the other last-minute mothers and grandmothers were clamoring for what was left of plastic eggs and chocolate bunnies. (Funny . . . I didn’t see any dads or grandfathers in the Easter aisle. Huh.)

Anyway, I grabbed more than enough candy to fill some eggs and his basket. Ok, ok, I also bought a bag of pre-filled eggs too. In my own defense, he’s 4 and was spending the weekend with us so I thought I’d run outta time. Which I did, of course.

Because we usually do some crafting together, I asked him if he wanted to ‘make’ chocolate bunnies with me again. We ‘made’ them last weekend and he loved helping by putting the stick into the chocolate. All the way into the chocolate, if you get my drift.

But he said no. He’d just let Easter Bunny do it.

This raised a red flag for me. Does he know I’m the Easter Bunny? He’s so dang smart, I wouldn’t be surprised. Disappointed, yes. But not surprised.

So all by myself I melted the chocolate, poured it, and stuck the sticks in.

Once the chocolate hardens, out pops a cutie-patootie chocolate bunny!

Okay, so they’re not as cute as the ones Bakerella made but c’mon! She’s Bakerella and I’m . . . I’m . . . Gramma!

Besides, I had another ‘secret weapon’ in my arsenal – SpiderBunny! Somehow I just didn’t think my four-year-old-crazy-for-superheros-and-WWF-wrestlers would think this little purple bunny would be cute all on his own.

Gramma! Purple’s for girls! Where does he get this stuff? Not from me, nor his dad.

Spider-Bunny

It took all of 10 minutes to transform Cute Purple Bunny into SpiderBunny. A red felt square, blue felt square, a Sharpie and some hot glue.

Every super hero needs a cape, even if you are a bunny.

Cram it all into a bucket and fill with candy. And more candy. And then add some more.

I’m Gramma, ok? I am obliged to do this.

Bright and early Easter morning, Grandson was ready for his basket. And the first thing he noticed? Not SpiderBunny. Not all of his favorite candies. Nope – the chocolate bunnies on a stick. That he and I had made just last weekend.

Easter Bunny brought me chocolate bunnies – YAY!

I love four year olds, I tell ya. So smart. So bright. And still so young. Love ‘em!

He was so happy with this basket I couldn’t get him dressed for the Easter egg hunt. Which wouldn’t have been an issue except his mother was coming over at 10 a.m. to pick him up.

But finally, he got dressed and the fun continued.

Pure joy. I dunno who was having more fun, Grandson or me watching him!

Although I must say, I hadn’t planned for the extra 15 minutes we had to spend making sure there weren’t any more eggs anywhere.

Back inside we dumped all the eggs out so he could survey all of his loot.

Sorry about the blurry pic. But have you ever tried to get a 4 y.o. to sit still after a breakfast of chocolate bunnies, Reese’s Pieces with a few sour Skittles for contrast. Or maybe it was just the person taking the pics – me. I matched him Skittle for sour Skittle. And then I set him loose turned him over to his mother for a second Easter basket and egg hunt.

If there’s anything better than being a grandmother, I’m sure I don’t know what it is. And don’t care either!
