I normally don’t write on Sundays, but today is just too beautiful. It’s one of those wonderful mornings when everything seems right in the world. Just a day for appreciating and counting blessings – which should be every day, I know, I know.
One of things I’m most grateful for in my life right now is the beautiful fall colors. Since I spend half of my time in Placerville with my mom, I’m getting to see such beautiful fall colors there. Not that we don’t have them in Sacramento, but Placerville trees are truly incredible! I don’t remember this glory when I was growing up there, but then, what teenager would appreciate fall colors?
Last Monday Mom and I took a little trip to Apple Hill – only 5 minutes from her house. If you live in Northern California, you know all about Apple Hill. It’s a wonderful group of orchards in the foothills with apple stands all over.
It brought back such memories for me. In particular, I remember the year I got my driver’s license and was driving my brother’s pick up truck (with a clutch!) all over Apple Hill. Back then, not all roads were paved, more had just gravel. And my mom somehow managed to hold her tongue as I tried to work the clutch on the hills.
Time has brought such change. There are probably more vineyards then apple orchards. But the beauty of the fall colors remains.
We managed to just buy a 20# box of apples and forego the pastries and caramel apples. ‘Course we have big plans for baking, but so far have just enjoyed eating the golden delicious beauties.
So I’m thinking Sundays might become a regular post on Gratitude & Appreciation. What are you grateful for today?
Colleen
I love this post and you idea to blog about Gratitude and Appreciation. I loved the photos as well. Never been to an apple orchard. Guess it's something I'll need to add to my to-do list!
ReplyDeleteYou have apple hill and we have daffodill hill in Volcanoe, CA. Oh and for some an awesome apple treat - try Sierra Glen Apple Ranch in Sonora, CA. both are fun places to see.
ReplyDeleteAudrey, it's been years since I was in your area. Brings back fond memories of me riding along with my dad, who passed in 2000. I believe I was a Brownie (2nd grade?) when I last went to Daffodil Hill.
