You can forget the Housewives and Kardashians for the next few weeks. DesignStar has all the drama and conflict you could want, along with style, color, and, of course, design.
Or maybe not so much. How many times have you watched a challenge on DesignStar and wondered what in the world are those designers thinking? C’mon, admit it. You know you would rock the ‘white room’ challenge, wouldn’t you?
Of course, I think contestants with artistic talents, besides a design background, have an edge over the others. Big surprise, coming from me, right? But really though, look at the show’s history.
Season One winner, David Bromstad, is an incredible artist. Not to mention, he’s hosting DesignStar this year in addition to Color Splash.
Jennifer Bertrand, winner of season three, demonstrated her awesome artistic talents. I still remember her take on the ‘white room’ challenge – gorgeous freehand oversized florals on a creamy background.
Don’t get me wrong now. I don’t think contestants have to be artists to win. One of my favorite designers was the fourth season’s Lonni Paul.
Even though she didn’t win (she placed 3rd), I felt she should have. And that was before it dawned on me we went to high school together.
Ok. I guess you’ve gathered that I’m a huge fan of DesignStar. So it’s just possible that you’ll be reading more of my thoughts here over the next few weeks. Just here though. HGTV already had a blogger posting last year. You might have heard of her – Heather Armstrong of Dooce.
But if you’re a fan too, join me on Twitter this Monday at 9 p.m. and use #cmdesignstar. I’ll be there for every episode. That is, unless Heather’s too busy this year and I get a call from HGTV.
Hey. A girl can always dream, right?
