Santa’s Weekend Workshop–Serving Trays

How are ya this weekend? Has the weather cooled down a bit like it has here? It makes thinking about the holidays a whole lot more, well, easy. I was so busy painting the baby girl wall hanging and the witch I haven’t started on any Christmas painting tutorials yet {other than in my mind}.

But that doesn’t mean I’m not thinking about handmade gifts. Did you catch that? ‘Thinking’. Usually I ‘think’ right up ‘til the week before Christmas and then scramble to throw some paint on something.

Maybe this year will be the year I’ll break the cycle and be on top of things. Then again, maybe not.

I’ll still share some gift ideas with you just in case you’re one of those people – the kind that has all their presents wrapped by December 1. It’s okay. We can still be friends if you’re one of those people.

Just don’t be surprised if you get a serving tray from me. I think tray will be the gift du jour for this year. {How do you say ‘of the year’ in French? Four years of h.s. French and I have absolutely no idea.}

Tres belle! Ok, I gotta stop or I’m gonna embarrass myself. And my french teacher. But isn’t this tray from Design Sponge gorgeous? It started as a glass insert and she used spray paint and silver leaf to make it all shiny and pretty. Check out her great tutorial.

Um, I wouldn’t expect silver leaf on your Christmas present though. Maybe silver spray paint.

I’m just sayin . . .

Or you might get a cutie-patootie metal tray like the one Sparkle Power shared at Oh So Lovely. Yep – spray paint, fabric and Mod Podge – much more my speed. And you could use it as a memo board too! I love my dual function trays!

(if you get a chance, drop by and say hi to Candace @ Sparkle Power – she just had a darling baby boy!)

Hannah @ Young & Crafty made this awesome tray for her coffee table to corral all of their remotes. Yes, she made it – as in cut the wood, nailed it, etc., etc. She makes it look real easy in her tutorial but let’s be honest – my wood-cuttin’ days are over. (Mainly because they never began.) But that doesn’t mean I don’t gawk in amazement at gals that do their own sawin’ and cuttin’. And don’t you just love the little rope handles? Great touch.

Yep, I definitely think serving trays are a great gift, although I’ll probably just wind up painting another insert like a dragonfly or fall leaves or something.

You tell me – do you like trays? Have you ever made one or made one over?
