Meeting the Centsational Girl . . .

Kate-5-12

. . . was sensational!

Last week I learned that one of my favorite bloggers, Kate from Centsational Girl, was giving a workshop at a local Home Depot. It took a little finagling and moving things around in my schedule but I was determined to meet her.

There are a lot of blogs I read and follow, but truly only a handful are what I consider ‘must-reads’. Centsational Girl is on that list.

But I gotta admit, while I was excited at the prospect of meeting Kate, I was also kind of freaked out. I know, I know, she’s human and all and just because her blog is ha-uge and she’s been in all kinds of magazines and on TV, that shouldn’t bother me, right?

*ahem* Wrong. I’ve never really met any kind of celebrity so I didn’t want to come across like a gawky preteen who’s ga-ga over the latest boy band. Or a stalker.

I thought I’d go a little early because, I mean, there’s always something I can pick up at Home Depot. Like some blank white tiles to paint on. And spray paint. And, and, and . . . you get my drift.

I happened to be browsing in the tile aisle when I saw a very cute shopper pushing a cart full of fun Home Depot items. I didn’t think Kate would be shopping but I took a chance.

“Kate?”

My timid, would-be-stalker inquiry was met with the warmest smile and then a big hug as if she was greeting a long lost friend.

“Colleen! I recognize you from your blog pic!”

My anxiousness melted as we began chatting. In just a few minutes, we managed to talk about everything from blogging to being DIYers.

Kate was extremely easy to talk to. Even though her workshop was a mere minutes away, she didn’t appear rushed. Quite the contrary. She made me feel like we could’ve stood there all night. But I knew she had to get everything ready so I reluctantly let her go.

If I had been impressed before by her wonderful blog, I am now an even bigger fan. I won’t be able to make it to Haven this year unfortunately, (Kate is one of the hosts) but I guarantee next year it’ll be a priority. This is the first time I’ve met a blogger in real life and now I’m super anxious to meet more.

And to see Kate again.
